Best Speakeasies in Porto: Hidden Cocktail Bars Worth Discovering

Porto may be famous for its port wine, but there’s another side to the city’s drinking scene that’s been quietly growing: speakeasies.

Portugal’s craft cocktail culture is still relatively young. You’ll find cocktails on plenty of restaurant menus, but the quality can be hit or miss, so if you appreciate a properly balanced, thoughtfully made drink, it’s worth seeking out the bars where cocktails are the whole point.

Lucky for us, a wave of new cocktail bars and speakeasies has been opening around Porto. Some hide behind unmarked doors, others ask you to ring a bell or walk through another business entirely. We’ve explored several ourselves and have a few more on our list. Here’s our guide to Porto’s speakeasies: what makes each one different, what cocktails cost, and what to know before you go.

🍸 Speakeasies We’ve Visited

1. Blind Pony

Blind Pony is the newest addition to Porto’s cocktail scene (it opened just two months ago), but the talent behind the bar is anything but new. João Costa, winner of World Class Portugal in 2022, and Tatiana Cardoso, twice named Portugal’s Best Barmaid at the Lisbon Bar Show, bring serious credentials to this intimate space.

There’s no conventional bar entrance from the street. Look for the light and ring the bell for cocktails. Inside, the atmosphere is surprisingly understated: no extravagant decor, no theatrical production. The setting is comfortable and simple, which lets the cocktails take center stage.

And they’re excellent. Tatiana and João told us some ingredients take 18 to 24 hours to prepare before they ever reach your glass, and you can taste it in the layers of flavor and umami. Our favorites are the Eternal Gomo 10 (João’s award-winning creation, with a tangerine freshness that’s incredible) and the Bica (think raspberry truffle meets spiced coffee). At €11 to €12 each, sipping on award-winning cocktails of this caliber is an outstanding value.

Address: Rua da Ponte Nova 54, Porto Cocktails: €11 to €12 Reservations: Walk-ins only

2. TOA

TOA opened about a year ago, tucked behind Bento Bento on Rua de Miguel Bombarda. To reach it, you walk through Bento Bento and emerge into a lush, garden-inspired space that feels completely removed from the street outside. The greenery and Asian-inspired design (think yin and yang calm rather than dark, moody speakeasy) create an atmosphere that’s elegant but welcoming.

The Asian influence isn’t just decor. It runs through the cocktail menu, with ingredients like pandan, lychee, and jasmine that give the drinks a delicate, elevated quality. Every cocktail is beautifully presented, and the flavors feel refined rather than sweet or heavy. It’s a very different experience from the classic dark-and-intimate speakeasy.

We’ve also been impressed by the attentive, polished service. Everything feels thoughtfully considered without tipping into overly formal. TOA has a full food menu as well (small Asian-inspired plates for sharing, plus desserts), so it’s a place to settle in for a whole evening rather than just stop for one drink.

Address: Rua de Miguel Bombarda 216, Porto Cocktails: €12 to €19 Food: Full menu available Reservations: Recommended; book on their website or via Google Maps

3. Apotecário

Apotecário is tucked beneath Curioso, another excellent cocktail bar in Porto. Created by Portuguese bartender Pedro Duarte, the space evokes an old apothecary: dim lighting, vintage details, and an intimate counter with just 12 seats and a single bartender working the room.

The twist is the menu. Instead of a list of cocktails, you choose a color, share a little about the flavors you enjoy, and the bartender builds your drink from there using local, seasonal ingredients. It’s a fun, interactive way to order.

Pricing is more reasonable than you might expect for a bartender-led experience. Cocktails are €15 each, or you can opt for the Journey pack: three cocktails for €40, which is the way to go if you want to work your way through a few colors.

And while you’re there, don’t overlook Curioso upstairs. It’s a fantastic cocktail bar in its own right, known for unusual ingredients and unexpected flavor combinations.

Address: Rua de Ferreira Borges 60, Porto Cocktails: €15 each, or the Journey pack of three for €40 Reservations: Essential. Only 12 seats.

👉 Tip: With one bartender and 12 seats, this isn’t a drop-in spot. Book ahead, and go with time to spare so you can enjoy the pace.

🚪 More Porto Speakeasies Worth Knowing About

We haven’t personally visited the following bars yet, but they’re interesting additions to Porto’s growing hidden-bar scene. We’ll update this section as we make our way through them.

4. ATMAN

Opened in early 2026 near Praça de Guilherme Gomes Fernandes, ATMAN’s entrance is a discreet green door with a bell inviting you to ring for cocktails. Inside it’s warm, intimate, and private.

The name comes from the Hindu idea of atman (essence, or soul), and the menu is organized around mind, body, and soul: signature cocktails, reinvented classics, inventive presentations, and a small menu of petiscos.

Address: Praça de Guilherme Gomes Fernandes 56, Porto Cocktails: Confirm current menu Reservations: Via TheFork

5. UNDER

UNDER opened in August 2026 on the lower floor of Nola 2.0 at Pátio do Bolhão. The entrance looks like a tiny art gallery (about six square meters) with a concealed door behind the artwork. Inside, expect rotating exhibitions from emerging artists, plus live music, DJ sets, and stand-up in the works.

Address: Pátio do Bolhão 35, Porto Cocktails: Around €10 to €14 (classics a bit less, mocktails from €4) Hours: Thursday to Saturday evenings Reservations: Check directly with the bar

6. Bigorna Social Club

Hidden at the back of Bigorna Barbershop near Mercado do Bolhão, this one takes the speakeasy concept in a completely different direction: a casual, 1920s-meets-industrial bar with a pool table at the center and seven signature cocktails built on the classics with a twist. Local DJs play on Friday and Saturday evenings.

The fun part: book a haircut and the first round is on them. A complimentary drink comes with your appointment.

Address: Rua de Alexandre Braga 62, Porto Cocktails: Around €10 Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, afternoon until midnight Reservations: Walk-in for the bar. If you’re getting a haircut, book on their website.

7. Panóplia | Ring the Bell, Walk Through the Curtain

Panóplia sits on the same street as Blind Pony, which makes for an easy two-stop evening. Ring the doorbell, step through the curtain, and you’re in a small space that mixes rustic and contemporary touches, with part of the ceiling stripped back in a nod to Budapest’s ruin bars.

It’s part cocktail bar, part mini-market: cured meats, cheeses, and preserves sold by weight, wines by the glass, and a cocktail menu themed around a trip around the world. A calm, slow-drinking kind of place rather than a scene.

Address: Rua da Ponte Nova 7, Porto Cocktails: Around €12 to €13 Hours: Thursday to Sunday evenings Reservations: Check directly with the bar

Final Thoughts

Porto’s speakeasy scene is still small compared with bigger cocktail cities, but it’s growing fast, and we’re excited to see more talented bartenders and creative concepts emerging.

What makes these places worth seeking out is how different they are from one another. Blind Pony puts exceptional cocktails first, TOA surrounds you with a hidden Asian garden, and Apotecário turns ordering a drink into a game of colors.

We’ll keep updating this guide as we visit more of Porto’s hidden bars.
